Meet the family behind Shark Reef Resort

Welcome to Our Family-Owned Resort in Port Aransas

Shark Reef Resort has been welcoming visitors to Port Aransas for more than 60 years.

Our family has proudly owned and operated the property since 2005, providing clean rooms, comfortable cottages, and friendly service just minutes from the beach.  For our family, it's home.

In 2005, Jennifer purchased the property as a single mother with three young boys and a vision for something lasting. Over the years, the property itself had been known by several names—including Tropic Motel and Paradise Isle—but when Jen became the owner, she gave it a new name: Shark Reef Resort. A new name, the same island soul, and finally a place to call her own.

Her oldest son, Tyler, was 11 years old at the time. The twins, Jake and Josh, were just 3. Jennifer's father, Michael, was by her side from the very beginning. He helped run the front desk, learned every corner of the property, and became as much a part of Shark Reef Resort as the palm trees out front. We lost Michael in 2012, but his legacy lives on through Jennifer's oldest grandson, who proudly carries his name, and through the memories that still fill this place.

That same year, Mary joined both the family and the business. Originally from Ohio, she fell in love with Port Aransas, its people, and the slower pace of island life. What began as simply helping out gradually became a calling. Over the years, she took on more and more responsibility and now serves as the property's manager. Chances are, she's the one you'll meet at check-in, answer your questions, or see out on the property making sure everything is just right.

Today, Shark Reef is home to a third generation. Jennifer's boys have grown up, and Mary now has two sons of her own—Michael and little Gus—who are already growing up around the motel, just like the boys did years ago.

And then there's Annie, the family dog, who has made it her personal mission to greet every guest who walks through the front office.

Jennifer still lives on the property, and in the years ahead she'll pass the torch to Tyler and Mary. Shark Reef Resort will continue the way it always has—family-owned, family-operated, and committed to making every guest feel welcome.

We're not part of a chain, and we're not managed from a corporate office hundreds of miles away. This is our home. We're here every day because we genuinely care about this place and the people who choose to stay here.

Today, guests can choose from classic motel rooms, spacious kitchen suites, or private coastal cottages while enjoying our pool, hot tub, oversized boat parking, and convenient location near the beach.

Stay where Port Aransas still feels like Port Aransas.
