About Shark Reef Resort

Shark Reef Resort has been a part of Port Aransas for over 60 years, but for our family, it's been home for 22 of them.

In 2003, Jennifer bought this property as a single mother with three young boys and a vision for something lasting. The property had carried a few names over the years — Tropic Motel, Paradise Isle — but when Jen took ownership, she renamed it Shark Reef Resort. New name, same island soul, and finally a place to call her own.

Her oldest, Tyler, was 11 at the time. The twins, Jake and Josh, were just 3. Her father Michael was by her side from the start, helping run the front desk, learning every corner of the property, and becoming as much a part of Shark Reef Resort as the palms out front. We lost Michael in 2012, but his name lives on in Jennifer's oldest grandson, and his presence is still felt here every day.

That same year, Mary joined the family and the property. A transplant from Ohio with a genuine love for this town and its people, what started as helping out turned into a calling. Over the years she took on more and more of the day-to-day, eventually becoming property manager. She's the one you'll most likely meet at check-in, behind the desk, or out on the grounds making sure everything is running the way it should.

Today, Shark Reef is home to two more generations. Jennifer's boys have grown up. Mary has two sons of her own, Michael who is 14, and baby Gus, just over a year old. And then there's Annie, the family dog, who has made it her personal mission to greet every single guest who walks through the door.

Jen still lives on the property. In a few years she'll pass the torch to Tyler and Mary, and Shark Reef Resort will keep going the way it always has. Quietly. Faithfully. Family first.

We're not a chain and we're not managed from a corporate office somewhere. We're here on-site every day because this is our home, and we want your stay to feel like it.

Welcome to Shark Reef. We're glad you found us.
